Hello everyone and welcome to The Better Festival Group’s 2010 Post Festival Season Newsletter!
I hope everyone had a fun Festival Season and for those of you who worked at any festivals with us this year, I hope you had loads of fun and we will see you next year
2010 was again a fabulous year for The B.F.G. and its fantastic team of volunteers, and I would like to say a massive thank you to each volunteer that worked so hard and really helped to make our second year better than our first – Bring on the third and even better year!
Wakestock 2010
The BIG Tent Recycle at Wakestock was a resounding success. It was the campaigns pilot year, so it was all new for us all. Everyone really got into the spirit of things and had a great time. We diverted 277 items (780.18kg) of camping equipment from landfill and passed it onto local Scouts, a local canoe club and Homeless Charity Shelter Cymru.
2000Trees 2010
Our first year at 2000Trees was a pleasure to be a part of. Everyone who stepped up to the mark at this event made it the success it was and thanks to them we have confirmation that we will be back there, even bigger and better than before!
Sonisphere 2010
Sonisphere was our biggest challenge of 2010. Not only did we have a volunteer team covering campsite hubs and main information we also ran The BIG Tent Recycle. Everything ran really smoothly throughout this event and The BIG Tent Recycle diverted 365 items (1116.32kg) of camping equipment from landfill and passed it onto local Scouts, St Mungos Charity, Goodone and a lady who makes bags from recycled material.
Bloodstock 2010
Once again Bloodstock went literally without a hitch, even with the last minute addition of Car Park Stewarding, the team at Bloodstock were a real little family by the end of this event, and the fun we all had rubbed off on the work and we have again been asked back including some extras for 2011.
Reading and Leeds 2010
Feedback stalls at Reading and Leeds were again successful, lots of people came to the stalls to leave feedback or learn about what we do. All feedback gathered from these events will be forwarded onto organisers and raised at the next Focus Group Meeting.
The BIG Tent Recycle
The BIG Tent Recycle as a whole was more of a success than we could have hoped for, we hit some teething problems and ironed them out and diverted a lot of camping equipment from landfill. A Public Report with pictures will be on the website in due course.
Core Team
We have added a Meet our Team page to the website so you can see who our core team are and see who you could be working with next year. http://www.thebetterfestivalgroup.co.uk/about/coreteam
Events for 2011
Bearded Theory Festival and Bloodstock Festival are already confirmed for this year. Sonisphere and 2000Trees are hopefully going to be confirmed very soon and we are currently in discussions with Wakestock, T in the Park, Download and Shambala Festival. All these events are open for applications here.
Festival Direct Jobs
We noticed that we were getting a lot of people asking about vacancies in a more behind the scenes capacity, so we decided that we might try and find you some of these vacancies, and give you a unique opportunity to work directly for a festival and get some experience in various roles such as Stage Hand, Site Office Personnel and Site Runners.
Bearded Theory are already on board and we will posting new opportunities as soon as we have them. These vacancies are very limited.
Have a look at what opportunities are on offer here.
