Crowd Surfing

Seeing arms and legs flying above the crowd seems commonplace at gigs and concerts. However there are certain risks tied to crowd surfing, such as having your wallet pinched from your back pocket, shoes lobbed over the crowd, and not to mention cuts, bruises and broken bones.

Most of the injuries that have been treated on crowd surfers are to the head and neck, and to the crowd, head and upper body. You also risk your wallets/purses being pinched too. Add to that the big possibility of a crowd surge and a gap you’re really not going to get across, and you get some serious damage to you and the other people around you.

If you do make it to the front of the crowd, security will grab which ever limb they can of you, drag you out and send you on your way round to the back of the gig. You spend all that effort trying to get to the front, and you end up at the back having missed a good portion of the set. Top it off with a head injury, no train ticket home, and no money, not a great gig huh?

This is why some venues have banned crowd surfing altogether. Please do remember to check the venue terms and conditions as rules vary from place to place. These rules are there to protect you and also security, they may be strong, but even they get hurt from lifting many people out of the crowds!

Always remember to keep an eye on your friends and the people around you, and not just on the band in front. Help anyone up that has fallen or been dropped. Take care of each other, remember, you may need someone’s help, so don’t hesitate in helping someone up if they fall! You would be surprised at how many people get trampled on!

If you want to avoid areas where crowd surfing usually happens, the advice is move to the back or the sides of the crowd.
